Bear-y Fun Extras

There’s a lot more to bears than meets the eye, and coloring is just one way to enjoy them. If you’re in the mood to get creative, try mixing things up by using materials you don’t usually reach for, maybe try pastels for a soft fur look, or watercolor pencils for dreamy backgrounds.

Sometimes, adding your own doodles can make the coloring page uniquely yours; a little sun in the corner or a few butterflies around a bear can tell a whole new story. For families, a coloring race can be a fun way to spend an afternoon together, or you might like to swap pages and see how someone else would color the same bear.

Bears also have some surprising facts that kids and adults both enjoy. There are 8 recognized species of bears in the world [2], from the powerful grizzly to the gentle panda. For example, koalas are often called “koala bears,” but they aren’t bears at all, they’re marsupials, which means they carry their babies in a pouch.

Did you know pandas have a thumb-like wrist bone just for grabbing bamboo? Gummy bears were inspired by a German festival tradition, and polar bears have nearly invisible fur to help trap warmth. Grizzly bears, despite their size, are great swimmers and can climb trees when they’re young. If you want to make your coloring even more special, try making a collage of your finished pages, or write a short story inspired by your favorite bear scene.
