Fun Rocket Ideas & Surprising Facts

Why not add a twist to your coloring? Here are some ideas and facts to inspire you while you color:

  • Try coloring your rocket with a rainbow theme!. Give stripes, stars and unique shapes to the rocket body.
  • Stick on other colored paper, glitter, or recycled materials to add accents to the rocket image.

A rocket is a vehicle or engine that carries its own fuel and oxygen, so it does not require oxygen from outside for combustion, making it possible to operate in the vacuum of outer space. The name “rocket” comes from the Italian rocchetta, meaning “bobbin” or “little spindle”, given due to the similarity in shape to the bobbin or spool used to hold the thread from a spinning wheel [2].

The rocket was like a giant balloon flying into space, but instead of being blown up, it was pushed by a blast of hot gas from behind! So, rockets actually ‘fly against the wind’, cool, right? When a rocket flies, the sound of the explosion can be louder than thunder! So, if you see a rocket launching, don’t be surprised if you hear a super loud sound. Rockets have parts that are similar to airplane fins, but to stabilize them when launching, so they don’t wobble like falling toys.
