Fun Sloth Ideas & Surprising Facts

Why not add a twist to your coloring? Here are some ideas and facts to inspire you while you color:

  • Try adding your own background, maybe a jungle, a sunset, or a rainy forest.
  • Use shades of green, brown, or even blue to mimic the algae in a sloth’s fur.

The slowest animal in the world: Sloths are known as the slowest moving mammals, even taking one minute just to climb a tree less than 2.5 meters high. Its top speed is only around 0.003 miles per hour or around 4.8 km per hour. Laziness as a means of survival: Their slow movements are an important adaptation to avoid attracting the attention of predators such as jaguars or eagles. Absolute energy savings because the main food (leaves) is low in nutrition [2].

Hanging strong and long claws: Sloths have claws 8 –10 centimeters long which are very strong for hanging all day on tree branches. Can rotate head up to 270 degrees: Three-toed sloths can rotate their heads almost a full circle, which helps them alert them to danger even though their bodies remain still. Sleep very long: In captivity, sloths can sleep 15–20 hours per day, while in the wild it is usually around 10 hours per day.
