Fun Whales Ideas & Surprising Facts

To make coloring even more fun, try some of these ideas:

  • Invent unusual food-whale hybrids. A blueberry whale or a pizza whale? Sure.
  • Give your whales faces—smiling, winking, or even blowing bubbles shaped like donuts.
  • Add texture by drawing dots for sugar crystals or wavy lines for ocean waves.
  • Challenge yourself with color themes: only warm colors like reds and oranges or cool colors like blues and greens.

Whales are huge mammals that live in the ocean, not fish! They breathe air through a blowhole on top of their heads and come up to the surface to take a big breath. Some whales, like blue whales, are the biggest animals ever, while others, like orcas, have teeth and hunt fish and squid [2].

Many whales eat tiny creatures like krill and plankton using baleen plates to filter their food. They can dive very deep, swim fast, and even sing songs that travel far underwater. Baby whales, called calves, drink milk from their moms until they are big enough to eat on their own.

Whales also help keep the ocean healthy. Their movements spread nutrients that help tiny plants grow, which makes oxygen for the Earth. With thick blubber to stay warm and their gentle, graceful swimming, whales are amazing creatures and important friends of the sea.
