Supplies you can use to draw and color the axolotl

  • Pencil or Black marker
  • Colored pencils or crayons
  • Paper
  • Eraser

This simple drawing tutorial shows you how to draw a cute axolotl using easy shapes. Follow each step slowly and your axolotl will come to life.

Step 1. Draw the Head

Start by drawing a wide oval in the center of your page. This shape will be the axolotl’s head. Keep the lines smooth and rounded.

Step 2. Draw the Mouth

Inside the oval, draw a small curved line near the bottom. This will be the axolotl’s friendly smile.

Step 3. Draw the Eyes

Draw two small round dots above the mouth. These are the axolotl’s eyes. Leave some space between them so the face looks cute and balanced.

Step 4. Draw the First Gills

On the left side of the head, draw three soft, fluffy shapes coming out from the oval. These are the axolotl’s gills.

Step 5. Draw the Second Gills

Repeat the same fluffy gill shapes on the right side of the head so both sides match.

Step 6. Draw the Body

From the bottom of the head, draw a long curved shape going down. This creates the axolotl’s body and tail base.

Step 7. Draw the Front Legs

Add two small front legs near the upper part of the body. Give them rounded shapes with tiny fingers.

Step 8. Draw the Back Legs

Draw two small back legs lower on the body. Keep them short and simple to match the cute style.

Step 9. Draw the Tail

Extend the tail and add a fin along the side of it. This makes the axolotl look like it is floating in water.

Step 10. Color the Axolotl

Color the axolotl in soft pink shades. Add light shading to give it a smooth and adorable look.
