Is the red panda Chinese or Japanese?
The red panda is not “Chinese” or “Japanese.” It is a species native to a region that spans several countries in Asia.
Red pandas live in mountain forests across parts of China, Nepal, India, Bhutan, and Myanmar. Most of the population is found in southwestern China, which is why many people associate the animal with China. Japan is not part of its natural range.
There are two recognized subspecies. The Himalayan red panda lives in Nepal, India, and Bhutan. The Chinese red panda lives mainly in China and northern Myanmar. The Chinese subspecies is slightly larger and has more distinct markings.
So if you need a short answer: red pandas are native to Asia, with the largest population in China, but they are not exclusive to one country and they are not Japanese animals.
